12 GUTTER SYSTEM COMPONENTS An expansion union (also referred to as straight union) is the accessory used to join gutter profiles to one another. The BI-SYSTEM assembly system, specially developed by First Plast, applies to both glue-on accessories and accessories with gasket. The gasket suits channel expansion caused by temperature changes in the range -30°C to + 65°C. During gutter system installation, the installer is often obliged to divert assembly direction at pitched roof intersections or according to design requirements. In these cases, the First Plast gutter system relies on the special right angle unions (either internal or external) or on universal unions, all of which can be assembled using glue or gasket. A running outlet is an essential accessory to make the gutter system complete. It allows rainwater running in the gutter channel to be drained into the downpipe that is attached under the running outlet. A running outlet accepts downpipes in different diameters and suits expansion when the pipe is installed with a gasket. Thanks to our thirty-year long experience, our PVC gutter channels are the perfect match of beauty and quality. First Plast is the only firm in Italy that holds a EN 607 certification for hard PVC sections and accessories. Each type is manufactured in several profiles and colours, and comes with a range of accessories that supplement the gutter system easily and functionally. The gutter profile and outlet union come complete with stopends. Sometimes unique pieces, other times tailored to the outlet union for some profiles, in all cases stopends not only close the system on the right-hand or left-hand sides, but mainly confer the system the essential feature of water sealing. The gutter system can be secured to the wall or to a roof pitch by different means, depending on project type. Retention can be obtained using PVC brackets (when the profile is mounted directly to the wall), galvanised and painted metal simple or double brackets (when the profile is mounted to the roof pitch), or ET1000 roof rafters (when the profile is mounted directly to the edge of a roof sheeting). Depending on installation needs, we also supply the ST 1000 top fixing rafters that, once secured directly to the roof pitch, allow mounting PVC brackets for all gutter types.
